1871 CensusJohn and Eliza McMaster appeared on the 1871 Census of Hungerford Township, Hastings County, Ontario. John was 29, born in Ontario, of Irish origin, and was a farmer. Eliza was 30 and born in England. With them was Arthur (5, born Ontario). The family was Wesleyan Methodist and was enumerated next to Eliza's brother Wm Oliver.3 
1881 CensusJohn and Eliza appeared on the 1881 Census of Campbellford, Northumberland County, Ontario, enumerated 4 Apr 1881. John was married, age 38, born in Ontario, of Irish origin, Methodist, and a Carpenter. Eliza was married, age 39, born in England, of English origin, and Methodist. With them were their sons Arthur (15) and Franklin (8) as well as Addie McMaster (12, no relationship noted.)4 
1891 CensusJohn and Eliza appeared on the 1891 Census of Campbellford, Northumberland County, Ontario. The McMaster family lived in a two story brick house with 10 rooms. They could all read and write. John was 48, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario, religion Methodist, and he was employed as a Carpenter. Eliza was 50, born in England, parents born in England, and Methodist. In their household was son Franklin (18), lodger Adelaide McMaster (20, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario), and Eliza's mother Mary Oliver (lodger, 70, widow, born in England, Methodist.)5 
1901 CensusJohn and Eliza appeared on the 1901 Census of Campbellford, Northumberland County, Ontario, at Lot 14 Garry Street, enumerated 8 Apr 1901. John was 58, born 28 Sep 1842 in rural Ontario, of Irish origin, Methodist, and was a Carpenter working on his own account. Eliza was 59, born 27 Apr 1841 in England, and immigrated in 1857. Eliza's mother Maria Oliver was in the household, as well as one house servant.
They lived in a brick house with 8 rooms on a 3 acre lot with one outbuilding such as a barn or stable.6 
(Informant) DeathJohn Ransom McMaster registered the 1901 death of his mother-in-law Maria Oliver. He was recorded as J.R. McMaster.7 
(Widowed) DeathHis wife Eliza died on 10 Mar 1912.8  
(Other) 1921 CensusJohn appeared on the 1921 Census of Brighton, Northumberland County, Ontario, in the household of his son Frank in Brighton Village. John was 79, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario, and lived off income.9 
DeathJohn Ransom McMaster died on 13 Apr 1922 in Brighton, Northumberland County, Ontario.
Details from registration: place of death Division Street, widower, age 79 years 6 months 16 days, born 28 September 1842 in Sydney Tp, carpenter for his lifetime, lived at place of death 3 1/2 years, father Jacob McMaster born in Ontario, mother Catherine Sohnan ? born Canada. The informant was his son F C McMaster of Brighton. Burial Campbellford.1 
Research Note Addie (Adelaide), born c1869, was recorded in the 1881 and 1891 census with surname McMaster in the household of John & Eliza McMaster. In the 1891 she was recorded as a lodger. She witnessed Franklin McMaster's marriage with the name Addie Oliver. I do not know how Addie fits in with this family.
