Martha was 40 and born in Thorverton. Also in the household were their children Albert J (6) and Chas W (3), aunt Sally Oliver (60, unmarried), and one Servant.1

1891 CensusJohn and Charlotte appeared on the 1891 Census of Dawlish, Devon, at No 2 & 3 & 1 Hatcher Street. John was 54, a Seedsman & Grocer and employer, and was born in Cadeleigh. Charlotte was 55 and born in Cadeleigh. Their son Charles (23, grocer's assistant) lived at home, along with two servants - a grocer's assistant and a general domestic.6 
1901 CensusThey appeared on the 1901 Census of Dawlish, Devon, at No 3 Park Road. John was 64, a Grocer & Seedsman and employer, and was born in Cadeleigh. Charlotte was 66 and also born in Cadeleigh. With them was one domestic servant.7 
DeathJohn died on 4 Sep 1906.8
 
ProbateHis estate was proved on 4 Oct 1906 in Exeter. Entry from the probate calendar:

MANNING John of Park-road Dawlish Devonshire seedsman and grocer died 4 September 1906. Administration (with Will) Exeter 4 October to Charlotte Manning spinster. Effects £2667 19s 10d.8
