     Edward was recorded as Edwin on the birth certificates of many of his children and his surname was spelled both McLoughlin and McLaughlin. He was born in Ireland. He was not in Lenawee County in the 1870 census. However, on his death certificate it stated that his father was named William. Sure enough, there was a William McLoughlin family that arrived in Lenawee County about 1872 or 1873 that fits perfectly.
     Edward married Sarah Quinn, probably in Michigan, and they had 14 children. He had a variety of jobs throughout his life - in a lumberyard, as a car repairer, laborer, stonecutter, carpenter. He died in 1907.

1880 CensusEdward and Sarah appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of 85 Frank Street, Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan, enumerated 9 Jun 1880. Their surname was recorded as "Loughling". Edward was 26, worked in a lumber yard, was unemployed 2 months in the previous year, born in Ireland, and his parents were born in Ireland. Sarah was 23, born in New Jersey, parents born in Ireland, and was House keeping. She could read but not write. With them were their children Mary A (4), William (2), and Stephen (6 months). Sarah's parents lived at 91 Frank Street.5

1900 CensusEdward and Sarah appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan, at 91 Frank Street, enumerated 5 Jun 1900. Edward was age 46, born in February 1854 in Ireland, parents born in Ireland, number of years in the US unknown, and was a carpenter who owned his own home with a mortgage. Sarah was age 44, born in August 1856 in Pennsylvania, and her parents were born in Ireland. They had been married 26 years; Sarah was the mother of 14 children of whom 9 were still living. The eight still at home were Mamie (24), Steve (20), Lizzie (16), Kate (15), Frank (13), Maggie (12), Arthur (5), and Sevilla (3). Mamie and Lizzie were machine girls, Steve a bolt maker, and the next three attended school. Daughter Sarah who was born in 1892 was not there, so likely died before 1900.3
DeathEdward died on 25 Nov 1907 in 91 Frank Street, Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan.
Details from the certificate: Edward McLoughlin, born Feb 2 1855 in Ireland, age 52 years 9 months 23 days, married, father of 8 children [sic], 6 are living, father William McLoughlin born Ireland, mother unknown, occupation Car Rep, informant [daughter] Margaret McLoughlin of Adrian. The cause of death was Acute Pulmonary Tuberculosis.2
BurialHe was buried on 28 Nov 1907 in St Marys Cemetery.2
