The Rev Richard Lovett, one of the Secretaries of the Religious Tract Society, died suddenly this morning at his residence at Clapham Common.
He was at the Society's offices in St Paul's churchyard yesterday, and got up this morning in his usual health. Just as he was leaving for the City he was seized with faintness, and soon afterwards expired from heart failure.
Mr Lovett, who was 54 years of age, before coming to London held a ministerial charge at Rochdale. He was a member of the Board of the London Missionary Society, and had a wide and intimate knowledge of foreign missionary work. He was the author of many missionary biographies, and his life of Chalmers had an exceptionally large sale. He was also one of the first authorities on the English version of the Bible, and possessed a wonderful collection of old Bibles and early English printed books.13
