BaptismHe was baptized on 27 Oct 1822 in St Marylebone, Middlesex. He was the son of Peter, in trade, & Elizabeth Godart of St Marylebone. His birthdate was noted to be 29 June 1820 and he was baptised the same day as his baby sister Mary.1 
(with Parents) 1841 CensusHe appeared on the 1841 Census of St John Wapping, Middlesex in the household of his parents. Thomas was 20, an apprentice, and born in this county.3 
MarriageHe married Laura Bear on 3 Oct 1846 in All Saints Stepney, Middlesex.

1851 CensusThos and Laura Godart appeared on the 1851 Census of Stepney St Philips, Middlesex, at 3 Philpot Street. Thos was 30, an Ornamental Painter, and was born in Somerstown, Middlesex. Laura was 23 and born in Mile End. Their children were Thomas (3) and George (1.)6 
Note.In 1852 Thomas Godart took over the tradition of Librarian acting as Museum artist for St Bartholomew's Hospital. This co-arrangement ended in 1881 when Godart retired from his duties as Librarian but continued acting as the Museum's artist and, after being supplied with photographic equipment in the same year, its first photographer until 1887.7

1861 CensusThomas and Laura appeared on the 1861 Census of Islington, Middlesex, at 23 Sussex Road. Thomas was age 40, Librarian of St Bartholomew Hospital, and was born in St Pancras, Middlesex. Laura was 32 and born in Mile End. Their children were Thomas (13), George (11), Laura (7), and Isabel (5). All were scholars.9 
(Admon) ProbateThomas Godart, Librarian, of 67 Myddelton-square was granted administration of his sister Anne Lovett's estate on 11 Nov 1868 in Principal Registry, London.10 
1871 CensusThomas and Laura appeared on the 1871 Census of Sydenham, Kent, at Woodville Cottage. Thomas was 50, a Librarian, and born in St Pancras. Laura was 43 and born in Mile End. Their children were Thomas Peter (23, photographer, born in Stepney), George Edward (21, stationer, Stepney), Laura (17, Islington), Isabel (16, Hornsey), Mary Castor (11, scholar, Islington), and Frank (14, wood engraver, Clerkenwell). Also with them were brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Fany Katharine Bear.11 
1881 CensusThomas and Laura appeared on the 1881 Census of St Mary Islington, Middlesex, at 12 Colebrooke Terrace. Thomas was 60, a Librarian, and born in St Pancras, Middlesex. Laura was 56 and born in Mile End, Middlesex. Their children were George (31, heraldic engraver), Isabel (wood engraver), Mary (21), and Frank (24, wood engraver). They had one domestic servant.12

MISCELLANEOUS.
In the presence of the staff and a large number of the past and present students of St. Bartholomew's Hospital, Mr. Godart was presented with a testimonial upon the occasion of his departure for Sydney. In an eloquent address, Mr. Savory, who made the presentation, alluded to Mr. Godart's long connection with the school of St. Bartholomews Hospital, and concluded by presenting him with a gold watch and a purse containing 60 guineas from his friends amongst the past students and staff of the hospital, and a testimonial, illuminated on vellum, and signed by the consulting and acting medical and surgical staff.13
 
DeathThomas died on 5 Nov 1887 in Glenview Street, Paddington, New South Wales, Australia.14,15

after only a few hours' illness, Thomas Godart; for many years Librarian and Pathological Artist at St. Bartholomew's Hospital.16
