1891 CensusHe appeared on the 1891 Census of Ratcliff, London, at 532 & 534 Commercial Road. Edwin was 18, worked as an Assistant in a Pawnbrokers Shop, and was born in Mile End O.T. The pawnbrokers manager and head of household was Joseph Thorn, whose father in law was Edwin Boston [perhaps Edwin's grandfather - not researched].3 
MarriageHe married Adelaide Elizabeth Toas on 27 Nov 1898 in Bromley St Leonard, London.

They were married after banns and the witnesses were Thomas Toas and Herbert Godart.4 
Item On 10 Oct 1900, notice was given that the partnership between Edwin Charles Godart and Albert George Hassell, carrying on business as Pawnbrokers, Salesmen, and Furniture Dealers, at No. 202, Devons-road, Bromley, Middlesex, under the name "Godart and Co.," has been dissolved as of October first.5 
1901 CensusEdwin C and Adelaide E Godart appeared on the 1901 Census of Lambeth, Surrey, at 30 High Street, enumerated 31 Mar 1901. They lived in four rooms. Edwin C was 28, a Clothier working on own account, and born in Mile end, Middlesex. Adelaide E was 28 and born in Bromley by Bow, Middlesex. They had one daughter, Lilian A (1.)6 
1911 CensusEdwin Charles and Adelaide Elizth Godart appeared on the 1911 Census of West Norwood, London, at 30 High Street. They had been married 12 years and Adelaide was the mother of 3 children. Edwin was 38, born in Mile End London, and described himself as an Outfitter and employer. The census clerk added Clothing & Furniture Shop Keeper. Adelaide was 38 and born in Bromley. They lived in seven rooms with their daughters Lilian Adelaide (11), Gladys Olive (9), and Hilda Dorothy (6.)7

Mr Burrow was his daughter Gladys Olive's husband.9
